DrupalEasy Podcast 34: Drupal 6 Attachment Views Interview

Drupal 6 Attachment ViewsMike Anello talks with J. Ayen Green about his new book, Drupal 6 Attachment Views.

This is J. Ayen's Green second go-around on the DrupalEasy Podcast, in August, 2009, Mike talked with him about his first Drupal book, Drupal 6 Content Administration. This time out the book revolves around the exceptional Views module and the author does a great job of introducing Views basics (including relationships and overriding theme templates!) and using repetition to really teach the reader how to leverage attachment displays.

The book was written as the author was building a site for Guild Builders, and it gives a nice overview of the entire process. While most of the views created in the book aren't accessible to the anonymous users on the live site, it is nice to know that the book was written as part of an actual development process.

As usual, our generous friends at Packt Publishing have given us a couple of copies of the book to giveaway - simply leave a comment below (be sure to leave your twitter or drupal.org username so we have some way to contact you) and we'll pick two winners at random.

Thanks for posting this excellent interview! It sounds like a valuable book -- especially for anyone who has been intimidated by the Views interface, or perhaps doesn't know how to get started to make the most of Views.

Please include me in the running for a complimentary copy of the book. Thank you!

Having just listened to this podcast, I think this might be something for me to get started with Views. So far I've just looked at the odd example and not really tried it out for my own site.

Great podcast - yet again. I find views an amazing tool but I know there are some some features and power that I just haven't mastered yet - this book would be a great help!

My ears pricked up when I heard that most people have trouble understanding Relationships. I haven't done much raw SQL so I'm one of the dummies who doesn't get it straight away. I'm really interested in reading that section.

Thanks to DrupalEasy for a clear review, and thanks to Ayen Green for a book I look forward to read! There is always more things to learn about Views.

I've used Views pretty extensively, but I haven't yet used attachments on any sites. I'm interested in learning more about them.

BTW, I'm enjoying the podcasts, especially the picks of the week.

Hi guys,
have just found you after a mention on a Lullabot Drupal voices podcast, nice one!
Have listen to and enjoyed about half a dozen episodes so far. I'd like to be in the running for one of your book a ways (love that term).
Hey also some audience feedback, I think you could benefit from recording your voices in a less reflective space. The sound quality is a bit harsh and reverby. Try putting out a table cloth or blanket on the kitchen table, or take it into the bedroom or lounge where there atre more softer furnishings like sofas and drapes. But hey its the content that matters and you guys have a good friendly informed patter so i will no doubt be tuning in again.
