Listen in as Ryan, Mike, and special guest Todd Tomlinson from ServerLogic discuss Drupal news from the past week. Todd is the author of Beginning Drupal 7 from Apress Publishing. Rather than going with a standard interview with Todd, we decided to ask him to join us for one of our news-based podcasts. Listen in as we talk about Drush, Examiner.com, Todd's current and future book, and a bunch of other Drupal-related stuff.
5 Stories
- Beginning Drupal 7 from Apress Publishing - a book aimed squarely at beginners, we discuss how the boko is organized and what Todd hopes users will get out of it. In addition, Todd is the author of the upcoming Pro Drupal 7 Development.
- DrupalRadar.com - a new news-based site covering the world of Drupal. They also recently announced DrupalRadar TV to debut at DrupalCon Copenhagen.
- Examiner.com - a top 500 web site re-launches on Drupal 7!
- DruPad - a native iPhone app to help manage your Drupal site
- Wordpress is a Yacht, Drupal is an Aircraft Carrier - nice article from by Boris Mann about an article by Nathan Smith about what makes each platform distinct.
Thanks to Webenabled for sponsoring this week's podcast. Create, develop, and deploy Drupal applications entirely on the Webenabled platform. Top-notch support included with every account.

- Ryan - Protected Node by Tolmács Márk (tolmi)
- Todd - Filefield Sources by Nate Haug (quicksketch)

Great podcast
Another excellent episode. I especially liked the way you had the guest participate in the discussion of the news. The more expert perspectives, the better!
Please include me in the running for a copy of his book, which sounds quite good.

Great podcast, as usual!
Always interesting listening to you guys brining up Drupal news, and in particular new Drupal books.
One thing I missed, though, was a follow-up question on "the trinity" of modules explained in Beginning Drupal 7 – CCK, Views and Panels. Since Panels only has a very early D7 version I would like to know how this module is described in the book.
I'm hoping on Luck to win the book, but otherwise I'll just have to get the book in the store to find out the answer to my question.
Cheers!
Liked the Podcast
Interesting podcast. I will definitely check out the DruPad app. Also planning to look at "Pro Drupal 7 Development" when it comes out. A copy of "Beginning Drupal 7" might be helpful, too.

Great show
Looks like a great beginners book - I will also be buying Pro Drupal Development 3 as soon as it's released.

Book
I'm hopeful the book will be successful, particularly in building knowledge for small groups that are interested in a better Web presence and who would benefit from the power of a Drupal-powered community site.
Future revisions might mention some of the hosted services offering Drupal as a service, such as Drupal Gardens and Buzzr, if this edition doesn't. I see these hosts fitting in as the Squarespaces of the Drupal world -- turnkey solutions where small groups can go to get the power of Drupal without needing to perform the maintenance work of a sysadmin. In that scenario, I think there will still be some need for a "beginning Drupal 7" style book.
